Accessibility Statement

Our work in progress to make Piscine readable by everyone.

Piscine is committed to making the Site accessible to as many readers as possible, including readers using screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, and other assistive technologies. We treat accessibility as ongoing editorial work, not a checklist.

Our target

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA across the Site. These guidelines are an international standard for web accessibility and cover things like color contrast, keyboard navigation, alternative text for images, and clear page structure.

What we do

  • Semantic structure. We use proper headings, lists, landmarks, and form labels so screen readers and other tools can present content in a useful order.
  • Keyboard navigation. Every interactive element on the Site can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone. A “skip to content” link is provided on every page.
  • Color and contrast. Body text meets WCAG AA contrast requirements. Color is not the only way information is conveyed.
  • Alternative text. Photographs include descriptive alt text where the image carries information. Decorative images are marked so screen readers can skip over them.
  • Motion. Animation is subtle and respects the operating system’s “reduce motion” preference.
  • Plain language. We try to write simply. Recipes use consistent, readable measurement formatting.

Known limitations

We are a small team, and some parts of the Site may not yet fully meet our accessibility goals. We work to fix issues as they are reported. Known areas of ongoing work include older recipe photography that may lack ideal alt text, and one or two complex layout pages that we are revising.

Reporting issues

If you encounter an accessibility problem on the Site — anything that makes it hard for you to read or use a page — please write to accessibility@piscine.us. Please include:

  • The URL of the page;
  • The assistive technology, browser, and operating system you are using;
  • A short description of what didn’t work.

We aim to respond within five business days and to address verified issues as quickly as we reasonably can.
